December
17, 2005:
Holy
Camoly it's been a long time since I updated the "news"
page. I guess when you wait this long it's no longer news.
In the last year we've opened a hobby shop at the track, JCGrc,
and it's doing well. This month we opened the online store
and we expect great things from it - www.jcgrc.com.
Another year of racing is just about in the books as tomorrow
will be our last race of '05. Tune back in in another couple
of years for the next 'news' update!
May
27, 2004:
We
just completed Round 2 of the RC Pro South Series. What a
weekend!! Lots of fun. Met a TON of new friends. There are
truly some great folks in RC. It was our biggest race ever,
and I think we did a great job running it. Big thanks to everyone
for coming out and racing with us!!

May
1, 2004:
Hmmm,
I guess I'm neglecting the NEWS again! Maybe I should call
this the twice yearly state of the track or somesuch.
Some
big things in store for us this year. We have an RC Pro race
scheduled for later this month, and the Invitational in June.
We just did a MAJOR track overhaul where we tore the track
down to its original grade and mixed all of the sand and clay
together really well with a tiller, then had the dirt screened
eliminating the vast majority of the rocks and debris that
was hiding in there. It was a lot of work and a nice chunk
o' change, but I'm sure you will all enjoy it. The new layout
promises to be fun and exciting. Our first race on it is in
less than 12 hours.
We've
got some more stuff in the works that I'm not quite ready
to go public with just yet, but hopefully we'll be ready soon!
November
26, 2003:
Hmmm,
I guess I'm neglecting the NEWS again! Racing has been good
at the track. The fast Sportsman racers have decided to move
on up to the expert ranks, I'm sure they'll do great after
a brief acclimation period.
Looks
like it's going to be a great year of nitro burning happy
fun time toy car racing action at JCG in 2004!
We're on the Nitro Invitational Schedule for 2004! Dates haven't
been set yet, but I'll be sure to put them here as soon as
they are known.
We've
also successfully bid for an RC Pro Central Qualifying race.
It will be the second race of the series, April 23 &25.
We
also have plans to upgrade to a new server that will allow
us to bring you some features that we've been lacking on this
site. Most notably, a message board. Hopefully we'll have
it up and running by the end of the year.
June
22, 2003:
More
coverage! This time in print. June 22's Fort Worth Star
Telegram's Metro section featured an article on JCG Raceway.
The
Fort Worth Star Telegram article can be seen here.
June
6, 2003:
Channel
8 Reporter John Pronk happened
by the track last Sunday during the Nitro Invitationals. His
story aired June 6 on the 5 o'clock news!! To see if you made
the cut, check out the on-line video on Channel 8's website
at www.wfaa.com.
May
9, 2003:
I picked up our new "announcer's
booth" today and it's in the back yard at the track.
We'll probably try to place it the week of the 19th. It's
8x20' and includes interior lighting and A/C to boot! We'll
have to get it set up on blocks, or somesuch, and build a
set of stairs and maybe a li'l deck area so we can more easily
take sign ups. I'll try to remember to get some pics of this
beauty too. If any of y'all are good sign painters we might
have some work for you....
May
7, 2003:
Work has begun on the dirt screener. RacerMan Michael Harrison
and I began construction today. We got quite a bit done and
it's looking good. We'll likely finish it up the week of the
19th. If I can force myself to remember, I'll get some pics
of it to show y'all.
May
2, 2003:
Wow! I guess I haven't been keeping up my end of the news
updates. There are a few things going on right now that I'll
let you in on.
The
racing so far this season is going really well. We've had
pretty good turn outs at all of our spring races and hope
that this trend will continue for the rest of the year. Thanks
to everyone for coming out!!!
As
you may have seen elsewhere on the site, we'll be getting
a string of StadiumCross
races up and running very soon. The first of which will be
May 17, at JCG.
Today
I picked up the first piece of material necessary to build
a big screener to remove the rocks from our dirt. I'll try
to get the rest of the material next week. Hopefully we can
run the majority of our dirt through this rig at our next
major rebuild (likely at the end of summer). In other dirt
news, I found a construction site that is getting rid of about
300 yards of dirt over the next month or so. It appears to
be really clean stuff too. They said we could have the dirt
if we hauled it off. As luck would have it, one of our newest
racers, Mike Kennedy, has offered to haul the dirt! So, hopefully
you'll be seeing some new features on the track very soon.
I've
also ordered the parts necessary to make the release for our
starting gate electric. This way we can trip the gate from
our announcer's booth, hopefully eliminating any false starts.
One
more thing that is currently on our plate is the search for
an enclosed announcer's booth. I've been looking at used construction
job-site trailers. They have the benefit of being pre-wired,
and generally include A/C! I just have to figure out exactly
where to place such a trailer so that we can see the track
and still call a good race.

Hopefully the site is up and functioning properly as I
just got it uploaded. Man, this web stuff ain't so easy!!
I hope you enjoy the site and find lots of useful info here.
Thanks for stopping by!! If you see something on the site
that doesn't look quite right, or broken links, or whatever,
let me know jake@johnnycoolguy.com.
February
23, 2003:
Pearland was a bust, but luckily M&M in Houston was gracious
enough to allow the first race of the 2003 Nitro Invitational
season to be held at their facility. The racing was great,
as we've come to expect from the Nitro Invitationals. With
all of the rain the days and weeks prior to the event, the
track was really soft and wore terribly throughout the weekend.
This made for even more excitement. Holes and ruts had developed
everywhere on the track, some of them seemingly large enough
to swallow a Buick whole. While some were disappointed in
the condition of the track, many seemed to think it was great.
Keeping the drivers on their toes makes for interesting racing.
For race results see the Team Houston R/C website at www.teamhoustonrc.com.
You should attend as many of the Nitro Invitational races
as you can, they're truly great events. Don't forget the JCG
leg of the Nitro Invitationals will be May 31 - June 1...BE
THERE!!
February
16, 2003:
Prepare for Pearland. The first Invitational race for the
2003 season is scheduled for next weekend in beautiful Pearland,
TX. If you enjoy toy car racing as much as we do, you won't
want to miss it!
February
2, 2003:
Our first remake of JCG's track was completed today. The new
layout boasts a full length straightaway and a crowd pleasing
crossover jump. Come on out and get some practice in before
our first race on the new layout scheduled for March 9.
